Vervielfältiger

Vervielfältiger: The Vervielfältiger (multiplier) is the factor used to convert the annual value of a lifelong right, such as a usufruct or right of residence, into a capital value (§ 14 BewG). The German Federal Ministry of Finance publishes it every year by age and sex.

What is the Vervielfältiger?

A lifelong right like a usufruct or right of residence has an annual value, but tax needs a total value. The multiplier converts it: capital value = annual value × multiplier.

Frequently asked questions

What does Vervielfältiger mean in English?

Vervielfältiger means multiplier. In German tax law it converts the annual value of a lifelong right into a one-off capital value, based on life expectancy and a 5.5% discount rate.

Where are the 2026 multipliers published?

In the letter of the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) of 21 October 2025. They apply to valuation dates from 1 January 2026 and are based on the 2022/2024 life table.

Why are the values higher for women?

Women have a higher life expectancy in the life table, so a lifelong right statistically runs longer and the factor is larger.
